Biography

Anna Fondren, Ph.D., is an educator and researcher specializing in juvenile justice, adolescent dating, victimization, and violence prevention. She earned her doctorate in juvenile justice from Prairie View A&M University, where her dissertation, "Deviant Trajectories of Black Girls in Adolescent Romantic Relationships," examined the relationship between adverse childhood experiences, victimization, and adolescent romantic relationship dynamics in shaping delinquency and pathways toward criminal involvement among Black girls and women. She also holds both a master's degree and a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Illinois State University.

Fondren's research focuses on improving outcomes for historically underserved populations. Her scholarly interests include juvenile justice, adolescent dating relationships, mass shootings and gun violence, community violence intervention, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), victimization, and evidence-based violence prevention strategies.

In addition to her academic work, Fondren has professional experience in victim advocacy, community violence intervention, behavioral health training, curriculum development, restorative justice group facilitation, and case management. She has worked closely with justice-involved youth, survivors of violent crime, and community-based organizations to implement trauma-informed, evidence-based programs that promote safety, healing, and long-term success.

As an instructor, Fondren is committed to connecting research with practice by engaging students in critical discussions of contemporary issues in criminal justice and equipping them to apply evidence-based approaches in their future careers.
